2012 Birmingham Boat Show

The Jerky Hut will be at the 2012 Birmingham sport & Boat Show taking place at the Birmingham Jefferson Convention Center in downtown Birmingham Alabama from January 18-22, 2012.

The Birmingham Boat Show is the longest running convention in Alabama and was the first event held at the BJCC over 40 years ago. It is considered one of the top boat shows of the entire South.

This will be The Jerky Hut’s first year at the boat show, and as always, will be aiming to please the boat and outdoor enthusiasts of the Birmingham Boat Show. We will be offering all of our beef jerky, turkey jerky, buffalo jerky, deer jerky, alligator jerky and beef sausage at this event, along with our line of Crispy Green and Fruitzio freeze dried fruits. We will also be introducing our newest addition, Oregon Trail beef jerky!

We will be at booth 4 in the East Exhibition Hall under our signature covered canopy! Don’t miss out on what the show has to offer!

Children are Free when accompanied by a paid adult. This makes the boat show a true family friendly event! There will be over 600 boats on display and many seminars by the top professionals in the industry. A drawing for a brand new personal watercraft will be available also.

We are constantly trying out new jerky products to see if they fit the high quality standards we like to offer to our customers, and this one surely fits the bill! We ordered a test case at first, to sell at events, to see how the reaction would be, and honestly we didn’t make a dime of profit on the case because we ate 1/2 of it ourselves it was so good!

The story of Simon Wong, The Jerky Hut and Habanero Teriyaki Beef Sticks

This weekend while we were at the 2011 Fairhope Arts & Crafts Festival, I decided I wanted to try something new. I began to snack on a fresh batch of Simon Wong Habanero Teriyaki Beef Sticks. WOW they were so good and very addicting! Not only did I eat two pounds of these beef sticks, but I sold the other 6 pounds in the box! These beef sticks are not greasy like a “slim jim”, and they arn’t filled with “fillers” and stuff you don’t wanna know about. These are hand made, fresh from the factory meaty sticks. They are have a good sweet teriyaki taste but with a good kick of habanero, just enough to make you want a little sip of water, but not too much to make you want to drink a whole gallon at once. I highly recommend these beef sticks for your enjoyment!

How did these beef sticks get the name of Simon Wong? That is an interesting story in itself. Simon Wong went to the Jerky Hut in the beginning days and requested a job application. Simon was a student from Taiwan and initially the company was skeptical to hire him because he was young, visa qualifications and insurance purposes. They told him they didn’t have an opening and if he could check back in a week.

Next week, Mr. Wong came back but was told an opening still had not opened up and to check again in a couple of weeks. A couple weeks passed by and the persistant Simon came back for a third time, and this time the other sales people told Steve (the boss) to just give him some order forms and a box of sausage, let him drive his own car and see what he does.

Simon was so excited to finally have a job at The Jerky Hut, and being the self starter that he was, and the desire to succeed, he very quickly at a record pace became one of the best salespersons. The staff started calling him Simon Right for now on!

Eventually, Simon returned back to Taiwan and was never heard from again. In honor of Simon Wong, Jerky Hut named their Teriyaki beef sticks and Habanero beef sticks in his name. On every package of these beef sticks, is the question “Where are you?”, hoping that Simon Wong sees one of these bags and contacts Jerky Hut again.

Florida Jerky Hut at Freeport Arts & Crafts Festival!

Wake up early on March 26, 2011 and join us in Freeport, Florida for the Annual Freeport Arts & Crafts Festival sponsored by the Freeport Town Planters Society. Freeport is a small town in the Florida Panhandle where Highway 20 and Highway 331 intersect.

The festival will feature a lot of local crafters and artists who get their inspiration from the beautiful country setting of the town and the beaches just across the bay in Destin. There will be everything from homemade dolls, watercolors, stencil, woodwork, toys, clothing and of course Jerky Hut Beef Jerky! Traditional festival food vendors will be setup also offering hamburgers, hot dogs, funnel cakes, fried snickers and more.

Freeport has been a small town throughout the years, but recently has gotten a touch of big city feel from the huge Hammock Bay development project off of Highway 20 and 5 miles West of Highway 331. This 2000 acre mid to upper scale housing project has sparked major development, including a Highway 331 bypass, a new school, a shopping center, hunting land, theater and playgrounds for the children. Upon completion, Hammock Bay is estimated to add over 7,500 to the population of small town Freeport, Florida.

Yummy Jerky will be attending this great festival and of course bringing our world famous Jerky Hut beef and turkey jerky. We will be accepting cash, Visa, Mastercard, Discover and American Express. The Winn Dixie in Niceville will take your special request and normally can have your order to you within two days or sooner.
