2012 Birmingham Boat Show

The Jerky Hut will be at the 2012 Birmingham sport & Boat Show taking place at the Birmingham Jefferson Convention Center in downtown Birmingham Alabama from January 18-22, 2012.

The Birmingham Boat Show is the longest running convention in Alabama and was the first event held at the BJCC over 40 years ago. It is considered one of the top boat shows of the entire South.

This will be The Jerky Hut’s first year at the boat show, and as always, will be aiming to please the boat and outdoor enthusiasts of the Birmingham Boat Show. We will be offering all of our beef jerky, turkey jerky, buffalo jerky, deer jerky, alligator jerky and beef sausage at this event, along with our line of Crispy Green and Fruitzio freeze dried fruits. We will also be introducing our newest addition, Oregon Trail beef jerky!

We will be at booth 4 in the East Exhibition Hall under our signature covered canopy! Don’t miss out on what the show has to offer!

Children are Free when accompanied by a paid adult. This makes the boat show a true family friendly event! There will be over 600 boats on display and many seminars by the top professionals in the industry. A drawing for a brand new personal watercraft will be available also.

Alabama holds a special place in our hearts. We have family in Baldwin County. We attended school in Birmingham at Samford and Cumberland. We have participated in lots of festivals including the Birmingham Christmas Village, Alabama Horse Council Annual Show, BamaJam, Opp Rattlesnake Rodeo, Gulf Coast Balloon Festival, National Shrimp Festival and the Fairhope Arts and Crafts Festival. Tennessee has also recently tugged at our hearts. The mountain country is absolutely gorgeous. We love the small town feel of Gatlinburg and the fun of Pigeon Forge. We have many friends in Nashville and we love the excellent Memphis BBQ (Germantown Commissary is our favorite!). We go four wheeling at Windrock OHV and have sipped fine whiskey in Lynchburg.

Georgia is always a blast. Along with our family in Atlanta and Hinesville (Fort Stewart), we regularly travel to Milledgeville to go four wheeling and to Warner Robbins to visit the Base. Can’t wait to see the Georgia World Congress Center at the 2012 Georgia Boat Show! Who doesn’t like fresh Georgia peaches? YUM!

We have friends and family in Kentucky also. Our daughters LOVE Mammoth Caves and we plan on going back many more times! Derby week is absolutely insane, wild and FUN! The rolling fields in Bowling Green always calm us down.

The Jerky Hut mourns losses in North Alabama tornado

A huge tornado struck Tuscaloosa, Alabama yesterday afternoon that caused an incredible amount of loss of property and, unfortunately, loss of life. This was part of a line of severe storms that traveled through the Southeast USA and caused damage throughout its path.

We have done many events in North Alabama including Birmingham, Talladega, Oxford, Delta and Tuscaloosa.  We also have alot of customers in the area that was hardest hit, and while we have heard from some, we still have not heard from others. Everyone is on our prayers for a speedy recovery and that everyone is safe with friends and/or loved ones.

We have teamed up with Saint Mark United Methodist Church in Northport, Alabama, which adjoins Tuscaloosa, to donate money and jerky to families that need help in recovery and also people that need food. Every order you place with us until May 31, 2011, we will donate 10% of the proceeds to Saint Mark United Methodist Church specifically for their efforts in helping disaster ridden families.

We are also donating jerky for volunteer and/or families that need food in the area. We are starting off by donating 10 lbs. of jerky, and if you want to purchase jerky specifically for donating to this cause, you can call us directly at (850) 376-9140 to place your donation order at a very special price. Upon placing  your order, we will immediately ship the jerky to North Alabama for distribution along with a thank you note in your name.

Yummy Jerky will be at the 2011 Christmas Village Arts, Crafts & Gifts Festival in Birmingham, Alabama from November 2, 2011 through November 6, 2011 at the Birmingham Jefferson Convention Complex.

This will be our 2nd year at this wonderful event selling premium Jerky Hut beef jerky and turkey jerky to the hundreds of thousands of shoppers who attend this event each year. The festival features over 700 vendors selling anything from shirts, toys, decorations, food, dolls, paintings to just about anything!

We will be accepting Visa, Mastercard, Discover, American Express and of course cash at this event. We will also be accepting our gift cards, and to celebrate such, purchase a gift card today in our online store, and for every $25 in gift cards you buy, we will give you $5 FREE on your card! The Jerky Hut at BamaJam Music Festival 2011?

Many of our customers here at Yummy Jerky have given us a call to ask if we are going to be at this years BamaJam music festival in Enterprise, Alabama. It was scheduled to take place June 2 to June 4, 2011 at the same peanut field where hundreds of thousands of people have enjoyed BamaJam before.

At this time, we will have to answer that question with a no, we will not be at BamaJam. Why you ask, well to be honest, BamaJam will probably not be taking place this year. It’s founder, Ronnie Gilley, has been in some financial and legal trouble over his Country Crossings bingo hall in Dothan, Alabama. While we here at Yummy Jerky – The Jerky Hut stand firmly behind Ronnie Gilley, and reiterate that he is innocent until proven guilty, the judicial process has been hard on Mr. Gilley and only wish him the best and that he comes out of this a better person.

BamaJam Music Festival

The Jerky Hut and BamaJam Music Festival in 2011?

BamaJam was started in 2008 as a replacement for the June Jam in Fort Payne, Alabama, due to the founding band’s retirement (Alabama). All three years saw attendance in excess of 200,000 people for the three day music festival, which has featured Kid Rock, Hank Williams, Jr., Lynyrd Skynrd, Taylor Swift, Brooks & Dunn, Alan Jackson, Travis Tritt, Zac Brown Band and dozens more of the top bands in the nation. It has been held in Enterprise, Alabama at an old farm on over 300 acres and featured hundreds of vendors, camping and of course music.

YummyJerky.com – The Jerky Hut will be selling our premium beef and turkey jerky products at the 15th Annual Bike-O-Rama on May 13-15, 2011 at Burnout’s Bar & Grill in Eight Mile, Alabama.

The Bike-O-Rama motorcycle rally is put on by the Bay Minette Civic Club that benefits many local non-profit charities in Mobile and Baldwin county, Alabama.

There will be over 400 motorcycles on display, along with vendors selling leather products, chaps, motorcycle accessories, apparel and a huge Harley Davidson display. There will be local entertainment all weekend long.

Of course, your Florida Jerky Hut retailer will be there selling all the varieties of Jerky Hut beef and turkey jerky! We also sell all our products online!

Mobile, Alabama Gulf Coast loses huge tanker contract

All of us here at Jerky Hut are saddened by the Pentagon’s decision today to award a huge $35 billion dollar airplane tanker contract to Boeing instead of EADS.

EADS won the original bidding process three years ago in 2008, but Boeing appealed..and now has won.

Yummy Jerky loves the Alabama Gulf Coast community, as we have family in the area and participate in many local events, including the National Shrimp Festival, Strawberry Festival, various Mardi Gras celebrations, Fairhope Arts & Crafts Festival and the Daphne Zydeco Festival. We also strongly support the Spanish Fort Middle School Toro’s!

The local economy really needed this contract, as EADS was planning on constructing the airline tankers at Brookley Field, located just outside Mobile, Alabama. It was anticipated that over 20,000 jobs would have been created for a community already hit very hard by the Deepwater Horizen Oil Spill crisis last summer. These jobs would have been created everywhere between Biloxi, Mississippi to Pensacola, Florida.

We will always continue to support our Mobile and Baldwin County Alabama customers, and always hope for the best.

Earthquake hits Yummy Jerky favorite festival site

A rare earthquake, magnitude 3.5, hit in the Gulf of Mexico on Friday, February 18, 2011 at 5:15 pm just 10 miles south of Gulf Shores, Alabama – the site of the National Shrimp Festival and one of Yummy Jerky’s favorite yearly festivals. We loved Baldwin County and we do many festivals there including the Foley Balloon Festival, the Orange Beach Boat Show, Fairhope Art’s and Crafts Festival, Strawberry Festival and the Daphne Zydeco Festival. We also highly support the Spanish Fort Middle School Toro’s!

Earthquake Hits Baldwin County, Alabama

Here is a little news blurb:

The United States Geological Survey confirms a 3.5 magnitude earthquake in the Gulf of Mexico.

It happened at 5:15 p.m. at coordinates 30.180°N, 87.848°W, about 10 miles off the coast, near the tip of the Fort Morgan Peninsula at the mouth of Mobile Bay.

The USGS has received 81 reports of light shaking. Most of those are from Orange Beach (34) and Dauphin Island (15). People have reported feeling the quake as far north as Birmingham, as far east as Port Richey, Florida and as far west as Saucier, Mississsippi.

Gene Longenecker, an earthquake expert who graduated from UMS-Wright, is the Southeast Earthquake Program Manager for FEMA. Longenecker says with quakes here on the coast, the most you expect is some light shaking.
